FAQ
Q
What happens after I select my images?
A
Once you select your favorite images, I prepare the images for printing. I design the coffee table book and send you the final design within 4 weeks to approve. Photographs are printed and delivered directly to you.
Q
Do you offer holiday cards, announcements?
A
I design and print custom cards for all types of occasions.
Q
How long will it take to see my photographs and how will I view them?
A
Your photographs will be displayed in an online gallery within two weeks of your session. You can view them in as a slide show set to music and use this gallery for selection of your favorite images.
Q
Will I see every image that you took?
A
The same attention to detail I take during the planning and photography of your session continues in selecting the images that you view. Before your images are posted to an online gallery for viewing, I carefully go through all the images and select the images that are the best representation of you.
Q
How do we book?
A
Once you’ve decided we’re a good fit or if you have questions contact me via phone, email, or through the scheduling tool on this site. The payment of the session fee confirms your scheduled date. Then we start the fun part, getting to know each other and planning details: location, specific time of day that is best for lighting, clothing, etc.
Q
How much does it cost? How much do clients spend? What will I receive?
A
Everything worthwhile is an investment. All of my photography (with the exception of business) includes a one of a kind book thoughtfully designed for your images. If you’re not sure how meaningful these are, here is what one of my cherished clients whom I have photographed for over 15 years recently told me. She said that the books which line her shelves in various sizes and beautiful fabrics are her most treasured possession and if there was ever a fire, they would be the only thing she would save (besides her children). On Mother’s Day this year, she received the best gift; the whole family spent the morning viewing all of their books and reliving the memories created during those times. A wall filled with portraits that I printed from those sessions is the center of their home, it is the first place guests are drawn to when they enter as it tells the story of their family. The investment depends on the type of session and begins at $950 for portrait sessions and $4800 for weddings.
Q
What do we wear?
A
Wear what you love, makes you feel great, represents your style and personality, and won’t make you cringe years from now. I provide suggestions and feedback about clothing prior to the session. Please just not fully matching outfits for a family, unless that is how you typically dress.
Q
What types of payment do you accept?
A
I accept cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
Q
Where do you photograph?
A
It depends on what you like. We will discuss the best location for you. I prefer natural lighting, beaches, lakes, fields, mountains, desert, your home, there are limitless possibilities.
Q
Do you photograph in black and white?
A
On most sessions, I will use a combination of digital photography and black and white film. This creative choice stems from my background in using film, a medium that is so beautiful and timeless, which provides a strong emotional connection to the image. Black and white film gives a beautiful tonal range where imperfections are less obvious. The images I choose to photography with black and white film are about the relationship with the subjects and the key elements in the image, rather than the focus being on color. The result is a beautiful story with a combination of both color and black and white images.
Q
Who is your client?
A
Someone who values and appreciates the process of creating beautiful, timeless, and fun images of the people they love who allow me to create not only beautiful images, but books and photographs to display that become family heirlooms. I have been photographing many client’s year after year from their wedding, to maternity, to children, to Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s, to graduations. We tend to share a non-traditional style and many of my clients have become friends.
Q
What if my children don't cooperate?
A
Relax, children pick up on their parents’ emotions, so your stress over the photography session translates to their uneasiness. Here are the best tips for your children to be relaxed: don’t be in a rush, don’t over prepare them, don’t bribe them, don’t tell them to smile, don’t schedule during naptime, don’t forget to feed them. Some good news, I love children, sometimes more than adults, so I encourage them to have fun and be themselves.
Q
How long will it take?
A
I don’t start a stopwatch. We decide ahead of time what’s important. When I feel I have been successful in documenting everything, we are finished. It depends on the session and number of people. Photography sessions are typically an hour, could be a bit shorter or a bit longer.
Q
Can I bring pets?
A
Yes, especially if the pet is an important family member. I don’t really like snakes, although I have photographed a child and his snake, I didn’t touch it.
Q
What if I don't photograph well?
A
It’s not your fault, bad angles, lighting, and forced situations validate that belief. Good news, I eliminate all of those factors, so you very likely will change that belief about yourself when you view your photographs.
Q
What can I expect duing the session?
A
Here is a very common response from clients after a session, “That’s it? It was so much better than I thought it would be. It was actually fun!” Here’s why: you aren’t posing or aware of every image that I’m taking. You are having an experience in a beautiful location which happens to be photographed. Also, your children may be disappointed when it’s over.
Q
How did you learn photography? What is your experience?
A
I learned photography and how to run a photography business from my parents who are both master professional photographers. They owned and operated a successful portrait studio in Corona del Mar, CA from 1979 until 2012. I pretty much grew up in their studio and worked there throughout my childhood and through school until I started my own business in 2001. Learning and experiencing new things inspires me; I have attended numerous photography workshops and often collaborate with other photographers.
Q
Where do you live and do you travel?
A
There have been three places that I have called home: Southern California, Arizona, and now a lovely town just outside of Boston called Brookline is my home and I love travelling just as much as I love being home. So, near or far, if I can get there by car or plane, I’m in!
Q
Do you do mini sessions?
A
A few times a year, usually in the Fall and Spring, I allocate specific days for abbreviated photography sessions at one location. These 20-minute sessions are perfect for those who want several sessions a year, where the goal is primarily holiday cards and gifts, or may be on a tighter budget. Dates for upcoming sessions will be posted on the website, my social media, and direct communication.
Q
What is your specialty?
A
That’s a question I get asked often. My specialty is people, I focus on what I love, what I connect with, and what I am good at. Your family and the people who you love are the most important to you, I get that, my specialty is understanding how those feelings translate to images.
Q
What’s your style?
A
My style is pretty much described like my personality: spontaneous, direct when needed, creative, collaborative, adaptable, sensitive, joyful, curious, aware, thoughtful, and fun.
Q
What if the weather is bad or I have to cancel?
A
A beautiful day for photography is subjective. From a photography standpoint, cloud cover provides a flattering natural light filter. If there are weather conditions, illnesses, or unexpected occurrences that prevent us from photographing, we will reschedule.
Q
Can I view a sample of a full session?
A
Of course! Many of my wonderful clients have given permission to share their online galleries.
Q
Do you provide digital images? What if I don't want or need prints, only digital?
A
Most of our world is digital, but photographs should exist as physical objects. Something to hold and pass down. One of the things I am most passionate about are beautiful, finished photographs to display and share in the form of books and photographs. I get that you want to share your beautiful images on social media, shareable digital images are available as an addition to your photography order. There are certain sessions such as, business photographs that are appropriate for the finished product to be digital images.
Q
Do you edit the final photograph?
A
My parents taught me the importance of beginning with a great image. This limits the need to rely on techniques to alter it after. Don’t worry, there are some enhancements are natural and your final images will be gorgeous.
