FAQ
Q
How do we book?
A
Once you’ve decided we’re a good fit or if you have questions contact me via phone, email, or through the scheduling tool on this site. The payment of the session fee confirms your scheduled date. Then we start the fun part, getting to know each other and planning details: location, specific time of day that is best for lighting, clothing, etc.
Q
How much does it cost? How much do clients spend? What will I receive?
A
Everything worthwhile is an investment. All of my photography (with the exception of business) includes a one of a kind book thoughtfully designed for your images. If you’re not sure how meaningful these are, here is what one of my cherished clients whom I have photographed for over 15 years recently told me. She said that the books which line her shelves in various sizes and beautiful fabrics are her most treasured possession and if there was ever a fire, they would be the only thing she would save (besides her children). On Mother’s Day this year, she received the best gift; the whole family spent the morning viewing all of their books and reliving the memories created during those times. A wall filled with portraits that I printed from those sessions is the center of their home, it is the first place guests are drawn to when they enter as it tells the story of their family. The investment depends on the type of session and begins at $950 for portrait sessions and $4800 for weddings.
Q
What do we wear?
A
Wear what you love, makes you feel great, represents your style and personality, and won’t make you cringe years from now. I provide suggestions and feedback about clothing prior to the session. Please just not fully matching outfits for a family, unless that is how you typically dress.
Q
Where do you photograph?
A
It depends on what you like. We will discuss the best location for you. I prefer natural lighting, beaches, lakes, fields, mountains, desert, your home, there are limitless possibilities.
Q
Do you photograph in black and white?
A
On most sessions, I will use a combination of digital photography and black and white film. This creative choice stems from my background in using film, a medium that is so beautiful and timeless, which provides a strong emotional connection to the image. Black and white film gives a beautiful tonal range where imperfections are less obvious. The images I choose to photography with black and white film are about the relationship with the subjects and the key elements in the image, rather than the focus being on color. The result is a beautiful story with a combination of both color and black and white images.
Q
Who is your client?
A
Someone who values and appreciates the process of creating beautiful, timeless, and fun images of the people they love who allow me to create not only beautiful images, but books and photographs to display that become family heirlooms. I have been photographing many client’s year after year from their wedding, to maternity, to children, to Bar/Bat Mitzvah’s, to graduations. We tend to share a non-traditional style and many of my clients have become friends.
Q
How did you learn photography? What is your experience?
A
I learned photography and how to run a photography business from my parents who are both master professional photographers. They owned and operated a successful portrait studio in Corona del Mar, CA from 1979 until 2012. I pretty much grew up in their studio and worked there throughout my childhood and through school until I started my own business in 2001. Learning and experiencing new things inspires me; I have attended numerous photography workshops and often collaborate with other photographers.
Q
Can I view a sample of a full session?
A
Of course! Many of my wonderful clients have given permission to share their online galleries.
Q
Where do you live and do you travel?
A
There have been three places that I have called home: Southern California, Arizona, and now a lovely town just outside of Boston called Brookline is my home and I love travelling just as much as I love being home. So, near or far, if I can get there by car or plane, I’m in!
Q
Do you do mini sessions?
A
A few times a year, usually in the Fall and Spring, I allocate specific days for abbreviated photography sessions at one location. These 20-minute sessions are perfect for those who want several sessions a year, where the goal is primarily holiday cards and gifts, or may be on a tighter budget. Dates for upcoming sessions will be posted on the website, my social media, and direct communication.
Q
What is your specialty?
A
That’s a question I get asked often. My specialty is people, I focus on what I love, what I connect with, and what I am good at. Your family and the people who you love are the most important to you, I get that, my specialty is understanding how those feelings translate to images.
Q
What’s your style?
A
My style is pretty much described like my personality: spontaneous, direct when needed, creative, collaborative, adaptable, sensitive, joyful, curious, aware, thoughtful, and fun.
